What a Long, Strange Trip It’s Been.
Written on Singapore Airlines flight from Moscow to Houston, somewhere over the Northern Atlantic Ocean. Date: Saturday, 23 July 2011. Ah, the journey home. As I sit here on the plane, it’s perplexing that I’m already about 32 hours into a 44 hour trip back to the States –travel and wait times included. I must admit, it’s a bit of a buzzkill…. You know, the feeling of plane funk – being trapped in a confined space for hours on end, calculating the time zone changes, bloated and...

My Yoga Teacher Training program has ended. It was celebrated with a memorable graduation ceremony where I walked across both broken glass (with great ease) and hot fiery coals (slightly more challenging). I was completely surrounded by the love and support of my classmates and teachers, overtaken by the vibrational frequency that enveloped the earth, sky, me. I’m blessed and grateful to be initiated into a world where it feels so natural to belong at this moment. Not just the Yoga world…....

My, how time flies. It’s been a while since I’ve made a post. I’ve been too pre-occupied with this thing called Yoga Teacher Training that’s required most of my mental and physical focus this past month. Of course, I’m also the type that has the “need” to write something well-thought. When you are communicating in a really personal way to an unknown external audience, there’s a certain expectation that’s set to say something a bit profound, or at least interesting. It feels a...

Today, we honor the Solstice. Here in Bali, it is the shortest day of the year and the start of winter. We’ve been blessed to have calming daily rains and moderate, enjoyable temperatures day and night. I am grateful for this, because Mother Earth is ill and hot with fever at home in Texas. Solstice: The name is derived from the sol (sun) and sistere (to stand still), because at the solstices, the Sun stands still in declination; that is, the apparent movement of the Sun’s path north or...

Initiated. Blessed. Vibrant. Content. After spending a full six days in yoga training for 8-9 hours each day, I have been rewarded with a day off. I relish this day of relaxation, as I won’t have for another 10 days. Every Sunday off? Nope. Change in the schedule. I had imagined the activities that may fill these days off – visiting local villages, trips to the spa or beach, shopping, etc. However, today the priority was sleep, reading and relaxing, topped off with an intimate dinner at one...

Today marks the end of my second week in Bali. Already, it feels as if I’ve been here a month. Bali is like that. It tends to welcome you right into her heart, wasting no time with that awkward dance of unfamiliarity. Now that I’ve begun my yoga training, I will remain relatively grounded for the next 5-6 weeks in Ubud. I figured I’d give a little flavor of where I have stayed and explored so far. One thing I was a little surprised about (but intentionally didn’t set...
